Cookies are small text files that are stored on a user’s device when they visit a website. These cookies play a role in tracking user interactions and providing analytics data. Here are the main types of cookies used by Google Analytics:

First-party Cookies: These cookies are set by the domain of the website that the user is visiting. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies to collect data about user interactions on the same domain.

_ga Cookie: This cookie is used to distinguish unique users by assigning a randomly generated identifier. It’s used to calculate visitor, session, and campaign data.

_gid Cookie: This cookie is similar to the _ga cookie but has a shorter expiration time. It’s used to distinguish users during a single session.

_gat Cookie: This cookie is used to throttle the request rate and limit the collection of data on high-traffic websites.

AMP_TOKEN Cookie: This cookie contains a token that can be used to retrieve a Client ID from the AMP Client ID service. It’s used for tracking users across AMP documents.

__utma, __utmb, __utmc, __utmt, __utmz Cookies: These cookies are used by the older version of Google Analytics, and they store various information such as timestamps, session information, and campaign data.

Cookies help Google Analytics track user interactions, such as pageviews, sessions, and events, while also distinguishing between different users and sessions. They allow G.A to provide accurate and meaningful analytics data to website owners.

User Demographics: Google Analytics can provide insights into the age, gender, and interests of your website visitors, which is aggregated and anonymized data based on Google’s advertising and search data.

Location Data: G.A collects data about the geographic location of your website visitors, including their country, city, and language preferences.

Device and Browser Information: G.A tracks the devices (desktop, mobile, tablet) and browsers that visitors use to access your website.

Traffic Sources: G.A identifies how visitors arrived at your website, whether through search engines, referral websites, social media, or direct traffic.

Behavior Flow: G.A shows how visitors navigate through your website, including the sequence of pages they visit and where they drop off.

Conversion Tracking: If configured, G.A can track goals and conversions on your website, such as form submissions, purchases, or other user interactions.

Event Tracking: G.A can track specific user interactions, such as clicks on buttons, downloads of files, video views, and more.
